RMIT University's nursing students at Sale will not be forced to change universities to finish their studies.
The university had announced the course would finish at the end of the year and students were told they could continue their studies at Monash University at Churchill.
The university now says the course will continue for another two years so that all 40 students can finish their studies at Sale.
Professor Peter Coloe says students expressed their anger about having to change universities.
"On the basis of the feedback that we got from all those students during the consultation phase, we decided - so that nobody would be disadvantaged - we would teach our program in 2010 and 2011," he said.
A second year nursing student says she is relieved she can finish her studies at Sale.
Nicky Smyth from Briagolong says RMIT University has listened to its students.
"I'm extremely pleased and relieved that the decision making was open and honest and that they did actually take into account students' wishes," she said.
